Four days after the explosion which occurred in Ondo State, the driver of the truck that conveyed the explosives, Mr Isiaka Yinusa, said he did not know that his vehicle carried explosive devices. The explosion occurred on Akure-Owo Expressway, at Ilu Abo town in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State in the early hour of Saturday, injuring several people and destroying no fewer than 70 buildings in the community. Coronavirus: Germany To Donate N2.2 Billion To Nigeria

The German Mission in Nigeria has pledged €5.5m to the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund, says the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Nigeria, The PUNCH reports. The donation, according to an online currency converter, Oanda, as of 2pm on Thursday, exchanged for N2.2bn. This is coming as the West-African country grapples with the attendant effects of economic shocks as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which has paralysed most activities in the country while infecting over 170 people with two deaths. The PUNCH reports that the Federal Government’s 14-day lockdown is on in top cities including Abuja and Lagos as part of efforts to curb the community transmission of the pandemic. There have been cries by the populace for the government to cushion the effect of the lockdown by providing relief materials including foodstuffs and other essentials. ABUJA—VICE President Yemi Osinbajo and governors who are members of the National Economic Council, NEC, yesterday met to discuss on more palliatives to cushion the effect of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. The Special NEC committee, which was held via videoconference anchored from the Presidential Villa, urged members to increase public enlightment because of the ravaging COVID-19. The Committee received the report of its Technical Working Group, which proposed an array of policy options and recommendations on how federal, state and local governments could bring relief to the people and take other adequate measures in containing and responding to the adverse economic effects of the pandemic.
