Police Block Lagos-ibadan Expressway As Lock Down Order Takes Effect (photos)

As part of plans to effectively lock down the Lagos metropolis, the police have blocked the inbound and outbound sections of the Lagos-Ibadan express way. This move follows the recent order by President Muhammadu Buhari, in line with local and global best practices for curbing the spread of COVID-19. In his nationwide broadcast on Sunday, President Buhari ordered that a total lock down be observed in two states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in a bid to combat the virus. The President said directed the cessation of all movements in Lagos and the FCT for an initial period of 14 days with effect from 11pm on Monday, 30th March 2020. Based on the advice of the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, the President also extended the restriction to Ogun State due to its close proximity to Lagos and the high traffic between the two States. Retail shops located on streets are free to open up for business as long as they respect the social distancing and crowd control directives, the Lagos State Police Command said on Sunday. The police gave this clarification following reports of partial compliance by petty traders whose businesses are not located in open markets. Spokesman Bala Elkana stated that such persons, even if they do not sell essential and life saving items, were excluded from the shutdown. Citing an example, Elkana said a hairdressing saloon located in a street was free to open as long as it does not accommodate more than 25 people at a go and also strictly prevented body contacts among people. Despite the temporary closure of Nigeria international airports, a chartered flight from the United States of America, USA, Monday landed at the Muritala Muhummed International Airport, Lagos with 35 persons aboard. Bauchi State Government has called on all the people who recently had personal contact with the state governor, Bala Mohammed, to present themselves to the Ministry of Health for Coronavirus test. Senator Oko, who died last night at a UK medical facility, was aged 63. JAMB published the names and states of the 149 candidates in its weekly bulletin obtained by our correspondent with Imo, Anambra and Enugu States topping the list with 26, 12 and 12 candidates respectively. Oil prices dropped yesterday as governments’ escalated lockdowns to curb the spread of the global Coronavirus outbreak that has slashed the demand outlook for oil and threatened a global economic contraction. Brent crude futures fell $1.09, or 4 percent, to $25.89 a barrel while West Texas Intermediate, WTI, crude futures were down 15 cents, or 0.7 percent, at $22.48 a barrel. Oil prices have fallen for four straight weeks and have given up about 60 percent since the start of the year. Prices of everything from coal to copper have also been hit by the crisis, while markets in bonds and stocks enter rarely charted territory. The coronavirus, which has infected more than 325,000 and killed over 14,000 worldwide, has disrupted business, travel and daily life. FAAC shares ₦581.566bn in February by Alao Abiodun 1 hour ago By Nduka Chiejina (Assistant Editor) The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a total of N581.566 billion February 2020 Federation Account Revenue to the Federal, States and Local Governments. The money was shared after a rescheduled meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in Abuja. The meeting lasted just two hours. The ₦581.566 billion comprised Statutory Revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Exchange Gain, and revenue from Forex Equalization Account. It was announced that the balance in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) now stands at $72.221 million. The gross statutory revenue for the month of February 2020 was ₦466.058 billion. This was lower than the ₦525.253 billion received in January 2020 by ₦59.195 billion. The country has recorded four new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said. It said this brings the total number of infected persons in Nigeria to 40 as of 11:00 pm on Monday. NCDC confirmed this in a Monday night tweet. According to the agency, three of the new cases are in Lagos while the other one is in Abuja. "Four new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria. 3 are in Lagos State and 1 in FCT.
